SEWING CLUB PODCAST EP 5 | TITILLATING TANK

SEWING CLUB PODCAST EP 5 | TITILLATING TANK

And we're back with Episode # 5 of Sewing Club Podcast! For this episode we switched things up and jumped over to knit fabrics with the Titillating Tank by Australian pattern designer Gracie Steel! As suspected, it's a winning handmade wardrobe basic and a satisfying sew.

Pattern: Titillating Tank by Gracie Steel

Size: 'c'

Fabric Type: viscose elastane knit

Fabric Supplier: Tessuti Fabrics

Gem and I chose this pattern because it looked like a really good base for making lots of different pieces. We loved that it comes with four different views, so you can mix and match between view A, B, C and D and make a top or dress version. I went with the 'Narrow Strap Back Mid Scoop' in the top.

I do love to whip up a knit project on the overlocker, but it was a bit tricker here since you're working with lots of curves and shapes around the neckline. I overlocked first and neatened it up with the sewing machine in parts that required precision, which was mainly around the front. The tank took approx 3 hours from start to finish, not a quick stretch project...but worth it!

I really like that the shelf bra comes with different height options for different size busts. I shopped my stash for a soft, plush elastic for the shelf bra and next time would reduce the length of it to sit closer under bust. I didn't put elastic in any of the seams (an option) because the fabric combined with the overlocker had great recovery and was already stretchy enough.

The instructions recommend to understitch the neckline and back scoop; make sure not to skip out this part as the finished top sits perfectly flat and gives a RTW finish! Make sure to choose a fabric with the recommended stretch with elastic or elastane in the fabric composition...recovery is important!

To be able to make something that fits you perfectly with the right scoop at the front and back and a built in shelf bra, sized to you...is why we sew! I'd like to make a slip dress version next, to be worn under other things or just around!

You can listen to Sewing Club Podcast Episode #5 on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Audible or Google Podcasts (insert other favourite poddy platform). Here you'll find all the show notes and we'll reveal the pattern for Episode #6, so you can sew along at home!
