SEWING CLUB PODCAST EP 1 | Zadie Jumpsuit
Welcome to the first me-made garment of Sewing Club Podcast (like Book Club, but sewing). Neither myself nor co-host Gem of Sewing Gem had sewn the Zadie Jumpsuit by Paper Theory before, and we thought it would be the perfect pattern to review for the pilot episode of Sewing Club Podcast! The Zadie has been hugely popular in the sewing community (there's over 14 000 + posts under the #zadiejumpsuit hashtag on Instagram)...and of course we wanted to find out why!
Project Details
Pattern: Zadie Jumpsuit by Paper Theory
Size: 6
Fabric Type: cotton linen
Fabric Supplier: Spotlight Australia
Featured Labels: 'Fucking Fabulous' from The Sweary Sewist 3.0
I chose the sleeveless version with a dropped shoulder but there is also a 3/4 length sleeve version. For mods, I shortened the front and back rise by 5cm and front and back bodice by 5cm.
I spotted this fabric on a trip to Spotlight and it jumped out at me - it's a little bit animal print, a little bit geometric and the perfect weight for an easy-wearing Zadie.
I love that the Zadie is loose fitting and super comfy. The waist tie sits nicely and doesn't shift around, it does a really good job of pulling the wrap into my body with zero gaping (even when bending down - see photo!). It comes together quickly because there's no zips, buttons or closures and I would recommend it for any beginner sewist.
You can listen to Sewing Club Podcast Episode #1 on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Audible or Google Podcasts (insert other favourite poddy platform). Here you'll find all the show notes and we'll also reveal the pattern for Episode #2, so you can sew along at home!
Make sure to check out Gemma's gorgeous Zadie Jumpsuit while you're at it!

So pleased I found your podcast. I like your detailed honest analysis of patterns without gushing over the them. Even well drafted patterns have small glitches or alternative ways to sew them so I enjoyed your chat. PS hemming before completion is not something I would do if the hem is likely to drop or you don’t know whether this would happen. I’m sure it would be fine for the Zadie.
I loved your first episode with Gemma. The pattern isn’t one I’d probably make but your hints and tips were really great. I look forward to the next.
