Pattern: Stevie Tunic by Tilly And The Buttons
Fabric: Embroidered Linen from the stash
We wanted to go with a Tilly And The Buttons pattern in general because we think she's fabulous. We like how they are very focused on the true beginner sewing patterns! The Stevie Tunic is a really approachable garment that someone could truly use as a first ever garment pattern with confidence.
The pattern itself is very simple and doesn't have any difficult closures. It comes as simple pattern pieces and there's an option for a button or a tie depending on what people feel more comfortable with. I chose the button option because I usually don't like ties at the back...I can never tie them nicely and plus my head can fit through without undoing the button anyway!
The sewing itself was very simple and quick. I loved that it has a facing because it's just easy and it's topstitched down so that it's not flapping around. The is going to be a go-to pattern if you're a beginner who wants to start with a simple project with some interesting details.
The fabric is an embroidered linen from Japan from the stash and lent itself to a cute top! I do have enough to make matching shorts but in reality I might look like I'm wearing pyjamas. These boxy type tops are on high rotation in my handmade wardrobe - everyone in the office knows I've been banging on about needing more tops and I've finally sewn one. I'd make it again in the next size up as it has less ease than other boxy tops that I've made.
